At PowerlineTechnician.com, we connect aspiring powerline technicians and workers with the training, resources, and industry networks they need to excel in the Canadian powerline industry. We work with training providers, employers, contractors, industry associations and unions to create a clear pathway from interest to employment as well as employee awareness and certification training. Our approach bridges the gap between education and the workforce development by ensuring participants have access to quality training, certified instructors, recognized facilities and funding opportunities that support every step of the workforce development journey.

Lineworker Common Courses


Program: Lineworker Common Courses (LCC)

Location: At recognized and approved training facilities

Course Length: Varies On Courses

Training Cost: $100 - $2500 (Varies On Courses)




The LCC list of courses are industry standard training in the foundational skills of the lineworker trade. Access to programs will teach essential procedures, safety protocols and understanding within a training environment. This training is ideal for small to large companies in the utility sector looking to prepare and certify employees within their organization.

Learn industry standard skills in linework, including switching procedures, EB&G and more.

COURSES INCLUDED:



Virtual Reality (VR) Training Programs:
2-8 Hours
This technology offers a safe yet highly effective method for students to gain confidence, refine their skills, and develop quick decision-making abilities essential for high-stakes environments.


Wilderness Training:
3-8 Hours
Wilderness training equips individuals with essential survival skills such as navigation, shelter building, and fire safety while emphasizing risk assessment and safe decision-making in remote environments. It also includes emergency response protocols for medical situations like fractures, hypothermia, and allergic reactions when professional help is delayed.


Line Start:
8-10 Hours
Designed to give a new Lineworker a solid foundation in starting their powerline career.


Lineworker Basics Bootcamp (LBB):
10-20 Hours
This basic bootcamp is a blended program that consists of online and practical powerline training


Radio Training:
1-3 Hours
Radio training teaches effective communication using two-way radios, focusing on proper channel use, call signs, and radio etiquette. It also covers signal strength, range limitations, and troubleshooting interference to ensure clear and reliable communication in the field.


RED SEAL Preparation:
1-3 Hours
Review industry outline for The Powerline Technician Red Seal Occupational Standard as developed by Canadian trade representatives. Learn the essentials and get a deep understanding of practices, proceedures, standards as described in the Red Seal Occupational Standard and recognized by The Canadian Council of Directors of Apprenticeship (CCDA)


Engineer Diagrams / Prints:
2 Hours
Training on engineering diagrams and prints develops the ability to accurately read, interpret, and apply technical drawings such as schematics, blueprints, and line diagrams. It emphasizes understanding symbols, scales, and layout conventions to ensure precise communication and execution of construction or utility work.


Storm Work Powerline Training:
6 Hours
In powerline storm training lineworkers will have the opportunity to learn the most important essentials of powerline restoration procedures, while maintaining safety in a controlled environment that allows participants to follow life saving rules and standards making them well prepared to work on any storm.


RBD (Radial Boom Derricks):
8 Hours
RBD training gives lineworkers an opportunity to learn the essentials of operating and maintaining Derrick Diggers, while focusing on safety and perfoming real tasks that give students a chance to get certified.


Pole Top & Tower Rescue:
2-3 Hours
Pole Top Training combines practical skills with adherence to safety standards, ensuring that participants are well-prepared for real-life emergencies.


Switching Underground Distribution:
8 Hours
Designed for those engaged in managing underground distribution systems, this course combines theoretical learning with hands-on exercises, focusing on safe and effective switching techniques specific to underground systems.


Switching Overhead Distribution:
8 Hours
Focusing on both theoretical knowledge and hands-on skills, this course emphasizes safety, strategic switch planning, and the practical operation of switching devices.


Equipotential Bonding & Grounding (EB&G):
6 Hours
Powerline Training™ prepares participants to manage grounding / Bonding and Equipotential zone tasks safely and effectively across various work environments.


High Voltage Awareness:
4 Hours
This program emphasizes the identification of electrical hazards and the necessary actions to mitigate risks in high-voltage environments.


Live Line – Rubber Glove Techniques:
40 Hours
This program emphasizes safety, precision, and adherence to industry regulations, aiming to equip participants with critical skills for live line work in high-voltage environments.


Self / Bucket Rescue:
2-3 Hours
Combining classroom instruction with hands-on practice, this course emphasizes safe procedures, from setup and testing to executing a controlled rappel as well as operating controls from the ground to lower the bucket in an emergency.


Journeyman Professional Development:
8 Hours
A Foreman requires proper steps and proceedures to become a great leader. Here a Journeyman learns the essentials of assigning tasks while following company policies and proceedures, maintaining job timelines, communication and detailed reports.


PATHWAY TO EXCELLENCE:



Graduates of the LCC who receive training will have an opportunity to participate in future Lineworker events such as the Lineworker Rodeo


The Lineworker Common Courses at Powerline Training™ are powerful certifications that generate knowledge, confidence and skills in the powerline industry, designed to keep you well prepared and safe while on the job. Programs can be combined and customized to suit training needs.

PLT PATHWAY PROVIDER

Facilitate employment opportunities where available and connect eligible individuales to Alberta government funding that can help cover some costs for - tools / gear needed for the powerline trade, training and education expenses and Class 3 driver’s license certification.
